About The Artwork

The re-enactment of the Passion of Christ is an annual event in some areas of the Philippines, where is not officially accepted by Catholic Church but tolerated due to the local culture and way of life. In addition to the crucifixion, there is no shortage of self-flagellating and scourged young people, a Grand-Guignol very attractive to people of all ages, especially children and young people. The spirituality, or the dark passion that can be felt and seen in the similar processions and re-enactments in Spain and Italy, is completely missing. The final scene of the Deposition, however, still gives some emotion. I wanted to show in my images this short intense moment of spiritual engagement, in some way near to the native spirit of religion. To get a classic look to the images, remniscent of old masters paintings, that I adore, I did some editing of the original a little bit harsh picture, made in the ferocious raw sun of Philippines at mid-day.

2021-Giuseppe Potente Photographer Curriculum Vitae born 1950, 07th of January, in Italy Based in South Africa and Italy https://www.instagram.com/potentegiuseppe/ SHORT CV I have been passionate photographer for many years, from 1978 to 1988. After a long interval, I decided to dedicate most of my time, energy and resources to photography, from 2012. I have recently joined the Camerapixo Press Team as free lance photojournalist. I am a lifestyle, portrait and fine-art photographer, Italy-born, living and working both in the Western Cape, South Africa, and Europe. I had a strong influence from humanistic photography. My photos, apart from the portraits, are unposed, not staged, and are usually part of specific story telling or a project that try to communicate to the "readers" the poetry, rather than the hardness, of life that vibrates in the images. I want to speak lightly and not with surgical precision. I love to experiment with new visual approaches, while maintaining acquired preferences. I prefer to work on my personal projects. I use film and digital photographs, printed on high quality papers. Recent published activity 1.Commended in Sony WPO 2014 for People Photography, 2.
