About The Artwork

"The hanging gardens where you wander around, in your own realities, lead you to where they can be walked, in our greatest fantasies. These gardens form a world that did not exist before, made from a deep desire for. Amytes, the Queen of Babylon, felt nostalgia to the mountainous landscape of her homeland and could not settle in the urbanized world. So am I surrounded by city and concrete. And my soul longs for more green, for the natural landscapes that are so wild. It looks like a dream world. I feel like the Queen. Nebuchadnezzar, the man who can handle Amytes and with King as name, built hanging gardens because of his wife's homesickness. Gardens that took our imagination in free rein. And so you can find me; wandering through Mother Nature, looking for visual elements to build up my hanging gardens. Grown out of a desire for the rare and wild nature, arising from the feeling of presence of our natural ancestors, I feel like a creator. Mother nature is the most important foundation of the world that I create, Ornamentopia could never have originated without natural colors and shapes. The attempts at escapes, brings society checkmate." - The hanging gardens of Ornamentopia by Jolene Cornelis

Some call me 'The Nature artist' and I kind of like that, because it tells all what I love to do and that's being in Nature. You see it correct, I write Nature with a capital letter, she is kind of my Goddess; Mother Nature. She is something that thrives me, she let me capture her vibrant colors and forms, she is the main foundation of my work. And it all has a reason; I grew up on the countryside in East Flanders, Belgium. There were a lot of dangerous roads crossing the beautiful landscape, people had plans to deforest the landscape to build more... buildings, more concrete, less trees. I was longing for more green, and I still do. In times like this, when Nature became so vulnerable, that I try to capture these last wild landscapes. As if I'm collecting plants for my garden, so am I capturing natural photographs for my natural fantasy world; Ornamentopia.
