This work is part of a larger series based on still images taken from film, television, and computer screens. The images are manipulated and degraded through multiple processes, both digital and analog, to deteriorate the information. The information is broken down gradually into abstraction by subtracting more and more, looking for the threshold at which they cease hold the same meaning. Is meaning binary, like a creature, which can only be alive or dead, but not something in between? Or can meaning be degraded gradually? If it is binary, can you locate the moment at which the meaning is lost? This work is rendered as a direct print onto aluminum substrate with a satin finish, it is housed in a custom brushed gold aluminum slimline frame. edition of 3 + 2AP, work is produced upon purchase. please allow 10 business days for production time prior to shipping.

Chris Horner is a Portland-based multi-disciplinary artist working in photographic and digital media. Originally trained as a writer, Chris has spent the past ten years blurring the boundary between text and image. Chris’s work explores the information-saturated experience of being extremely online--incorporating screenshots, photographs, marketing slogans, song lyrics, film stills, original texts and more into a net-art phantasmagoria. In addition to exhibiting work at San Francisco’s Get High on Mountains Gallery, and being published in UK-based Lazy Oaf Magazine, Chris has self-published multiple photo books, including Cash for Gold, Rock Paper Scissors, and Social Anxiety.
