Art Inventory III condenses impressions and glimpses made during a trip to New York. I tried to portray the diversity of the architectural styling by combining poorer suburban areas with newer new trendy neighborhoods from Manhattan. Verticality plays a leading role in my composition as it does in reality. The further you are away from downtown, the flatter the city becomes. The setting goes in crescendo from bottom to top. A busy highway reflects the rush hour scenario. Buildings pile up against each other in an intricate juxtaposition. Beyond an elevated subway path, there is the upper city, which is composed of highly minimalistic ultra-modern structures. Sculptures and furnaces appear as buildings and skyscrapers, suggesting that art, design, and architecture are fused. Recognizable among the many objects is my take of one of the many stack sculptures by American artist, Donald Judd (1928-1994) on the top right. It is important to mention that the space between the edge of the plate and the image occasionally becomes brighter to suggest continuity and depth. Such is the case with the top edge angles, which outline the distant shadows of tall buildings. Copper plate etching with aquatint and embossing printed on 300 g, Pescia paper. The image size is 21 H” x 15.5 W”. The paper size 30 H” x 21 W”. It doesn't come matted or framed.

Carlos A Delgado is a Cuban-born artist based in Union City, Georgia - a suburb of Atlanta. An artist since his youth, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of the Arts of Cuba, but even as recently as a few years ago, never entertained the idea that he might live, study and work in the United States. Having spent more than 26 years away from academic life and overcoming seemingly insurmountable financial and political barriers, in 2013, Mr. Delgado became the first Cuban national to attend Savannah College of Art Design in Atlanta, Georgia. It had been his life-long dream to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts in Printmaking. He completed the program in two years emerging as the Class of 2016 Excelsus Laureate recipient. Before moving to the U.S. Carlos worked as a Master Screenprinter for the world famous Taller Artístico de Serigrafía René Portocarrero (Fine Art Screen Printing Studio) in Havana, Cuba. There he had the opportunity to work with and advise some of the best-known serigraphy artists of our time's such as Robert Rauschenberg, Julio Le Parc, and Mimo Rotella to name a few. Inspired by Escher, Chirico, and Dali, Carlos creates optical illusions and whimsical, surreal worlds with recurrent architectural motifs. He practices painting, serigraphy, copper etching, lithography, photogravure, aquatint, and sculptor. Mr. Delgado primarily focuses on century-old techniques with some infusion of modern technologies. Carlos has always believed that from birth he could have been only two things – an artist or an architect. A student of English, French and German languages as well, Carlos continues his emergence as a dedicated master printmaker and as a mentor in the visual arts at large.
