This is the only print/mixed media image from a hand-pulled lithographic series I entitled "Origins". This piece presents my perspective of living in the present but still thinking of my past or roots. Using multiple planes that depict a variety of different environments and time periods I reflected on my Celtic heritage and religious and/or spiritual origins. The image is created using the lithographic process, black inks and watercolors. You will also see my Scottish clan's tartan as one of the design motifs as well as the recurring backdrop of outer space, architectural and nature forms, all of which are literal and symbolic as it relates to where I feel at home and protected. The image you will receive is printed on white paper and will be signed, titled and designated 1/1. Also be aware the artwork dimensions include the white space of the paper and are rounded to whole numbers.

Creating and teaching art has been a true passion and joy of Nan's for the past 40 years. As an artist she has explored a variety of artistic processes both 3D and 2D including clay and wire sculpture, fiber manipulation, painting, printmaking, drawing, and the digital arts. As a college art professor for over 18 years Nan has designed and taught both traditional studio art courses as well as the digital arts and art history. Her favorite subjects are nature and outer space, as both present a unique perspective that is either finite and grounding or infinite and full of possibilities. Through the use of such design motifs as trees, plants, birds, insects or the stars and galaxies of outer space, she figuratively paints an intimate portrait of our existence that strikes a harmonious universal accord. Through her years of exploration, she has been fortunate to have exhibited her work all over the world in such places as China, Scotland, Japan and the U.S. After retiring from teaching in 2015, she has been heavily involved in pursuing her passion of art making full-time once again and looks forward to sharing her work with you.
