About The Artwork

This etching is on 100% cotton (rag) paper. Birds are elegant and etching is elegant. I am creating bird images because birds feel outside the mundane world. As a person, I love the freedom of birds. As an artist, I love the patterns involved in drawing birds. They resemble spirit. However, in my etchings they also resemble people. They gather in situations and they connect or not as people do and dont. In this particular print, there is a bit of fantasy involved as they exist under 4 moons, in a different kind of world

I was born in Bethesda, MD just on the outskirts of Washington, DC where my father was engaged in politics. I went to Brown University and moved to San Francisco immediately in search of unconventional people. I easily found them and found galleries and had real artists like Tom Marioni and David Ireland who were inspirational. I was in a group show at the Oaklnd Museum who has my work in their collection, as does the Tacoma Museum in Washington and the Corning Museum of Glass in NY. I was artist in residence at The de Young Museum in San Francisco. I had a one person show at The Napa Valley Museum and was in Braunstein/Quay gallery for 16 years. I have also done many private commissions and one permanent public commission for San Francisco’s public library. More recently I have spent more summers in Barcelona as an artist in residence at Jiwar.
