About The Artwork

My relationship with the sea began as a child visiting the East Anglian coast of England. As our car neared the coast along the winding road, we could suddenly see on the horizon its sparking movement and its pale blue colour that was just discernible from the sky above it, then my heart beat in ecstasy. I love cold water swimming and jumping through the waves, it is an expression of my being, and as such I have love of capturing this in my art. Here the gentle foam laps around my ankles, and the thrill of the coolness of the water takes away all anxiety, as I move in time with the steady motion of the breaking waves.

I was born in Hertfordshire, UK in 1958, part of my childhood was spent on the East Suffolk coast. Currently I live and work in London and Farnham. As a self taught artist I began my career in interior design in order to work in a creative field, but what I really wanted to do was make art! Eventually I was able to achieve my goal by working to commission, painting murals to start with for the interior design trade, this was back in the '80's, then I began to paint portraits. My first one man show was in the early 90's after I had successfully painted all the road bridges along the Thames, it was held in Tower Bridge and was quite an event. I love water, sparking or otherwise, and I love the London bridges. My first exhibition led me into becoming a printmaker at the Artichoke Printworks in Brixton, an open access print studio where I create my mono prints and other etchings, where I have been a member for several decades.
