Don't they all look the same no.0709 Print

I wanted to create a print that put the rocks in a portrait type of setting, a neutral environment for them to be in, where they could be studied and looked at in an objective way, nothing surrounding them to distract and you would get a feel for their size and would be able to compare them. This one is of the same rock, a duel coloured one, light grey to white and orange to red. It is the exact same image repeated 9 times for dramatic effect but also so it loses its meaning, similar to its size which is quite small, around 3cm, when out in its natural terrain it is surrounded with similar sized rocks, with similar textures, where the object would get lost. Once I printed this one the texture got lost, and the centre of the image became black. This is the second of a series of collective prints, each rock is repeated two times here, just from different angles. Each image is marked of making it obvious that they are different images. I had several small rocks that I photographed by staging them with flash lights and a white background/surface. The initial idea was to have them all be in the same print emphasizing the difference in texture, size and colour but instead I found out it was better to photograph them individually and place the photographs next to one another, this way it was easier for me to control the size and position, having them all be perfectly aligned, and staged as similarly as possible, now the only difference between them is the texture. The character of each rock is emphasized and compared fairly amongst the crowd (the rocks). While bitmapping them and adjusting the light so that each photo was identical to the next and once printed the outcome was exactly as I had planned it, the gradient of grey through out each image was consistent, the heaviness of black in the centre varied little between each photo. But once I screen-printed all nine photos on to Bread & Butter paper, the amount of paint leaking through the mesh was not what I had expected and I am not sure I like the out come of the this, I need to leave it for a few days and come back to it and see what I think. The reason I dislike it is because I had expected and planned for something completely different, the texture of the rocks is not noticeable, you cant really tell that they are rocks, which defeats the purpose of what I had intended. There is still something that I find intriguing about the print, but I am not sure if it works. The print itself took two hours to put on the screen and the process of printing it took two hours as well, the workshop was only open for one day, so I had to act fast, and it won’t be open for weeks. If I wont keep the print as is I will need to have it printed somewhere else which means that it wont be a screen print nor will it be hand printed and the creative control of the printing process will not be in my control, which is something which is consistent through out my other works for the degree show. I will leave this for now and come back to it in a few days.
