About The Artwork

Looking into water is always an invitation to contemplate mystery. We see only the surface. What is beneath? Water ripples and bubbles delight as textures and interplay with graphic patterns in the composition. I digitally collaged this artwork from photographs I took of the hand-printed materials I create in in my studio. I hand print monotypes on fabrics and paper by a variety of surface design techniques. Using acrylic paints to create rich colors and patterns, it’s very hands-on and low-tech. I have photographed bits and pieces of the materials I make for my original textile art and art quilts then rearranged them to create these canvas and fine paper prints.

I investigate the natural world and the inner world through the creation of hand-printed, richly layered art quilts. In the process, I hand print images and patterns on rice paper and fabric. Because of the textural, tactile nature of my art quilts, I do not create reproductions of them. I have, however, frequently found myself intrigued with the patterns and colors of the fabric and paper I create purely as aesthetic elements. For this body of work, I have created original digital collages using detailed photographs of the paper and fabric I print. Collage artists are known for saving every little scrap for use in a new work! These digitally collaged works are one more way of preserving and using the work of my hands.
