About The Artwork

I like the graphic of industrial stairs and architecture, I drew this stair by hand on my screen before printing it with black ink. I wanted simplicity to highlight the pure form of the stair.

I am a multidisciplinary, self-taught artist born in France. I publish under the name Bloom by Cate. I began my studies in English literature in Paris, but my passion for textiles led to my first jobs in films and theater costume design in 1985. In 1997 when I moved to the countryside in Southwest France I discovered the universes of interior and floral design. In 1999 after exhibiting my work at Gençay, I started collaborating with an experienced floral designer with whom I developed new artistic sensibility and skills. I began taking advanced courses in interior design and In 2008 finished with a degree in architecture. On my return to Paris in 2011, I picked up drawing and painting again and twice exhibited at La Galerie des Bons Enfants in Paris. I received the L’Esprit de Paris prize in 2016. Very concerned for environment, I have researched alternative mediums and processes, and am now concentrating on the use of traditional methods for the extraction of colors from plants. Many of the colors I use are delivered from plants that I have treated in my own studio. These I mix and use for my own watercolors and in my sculpted and embroidered paperwork, as well as on some linen. My important influences include the Arts & Crafts movement, especially the works of W. Morris, The Glasgow Four, K. Moser and k. Serizawa.
