About The Artwork

Mythology is my great inspiration and lifetime interest. Old stories have deep meaning and reflect in life even today. Symbolic language of myths describes much of culture, the ways people relate to each other and world around us. Labyrinth is reoccurring motif in my work. As any other symbol, it has multiple applications, explanations and implications. In most general way it represents a journey with inevitable destination. Mystery lays in multiple turns. Sometimes we have foresight of where it leads too other times we don't. As all things in life, true meaning is reviled when destination is reached. Centering is needed in modern life and structured shape of labyrinth might do just that. Mighty beasts we might encounter on life journey are possible to subdue or pacify as myths teach us. in practice of making a Monotype, I paint with oil. That method gives me freedom to play with pigments in much different way than other mediums. Spontaneity and directness which monotype offers, I wish to pass on a viewer's experience. It's at once scary and fun, exhilarating and intimidating as life itself, an adventure to be faced heads up as if encountering a beast in the labyrinth.
