About The Artwork

This painting depicts Oko Baba, a slum community in Lagos State before it was destroyed by a fire outbreak. The painting expresses ghetto life with many colors-the bright, the dull and the in-betweens. The community is characterized by smokehouses, small industries like fisheries, boat building, floating timber processing, and woodwork. This work is made from an image captured right from the top of Africa's longest bridge, overlooking this community. This etching work is now iconic as this community no longer exists in this form and this painting serves as one of the few preservation of this unique location.
