The 18thC Scottish creamware plate hangs on my kitchen wall. A chance arrangement of a pale green pumpkin, a pomegranate, suggested I add a napkin and an old earthenware jar - and, voila, a serene and classical still life. I was entranced at that moment by a very simple techique using silkscreen with paper cut-out masks, and wondered if I could use that technique to make an exciting image from the arrangement in front of me. I printed up 5 copies in this edition. Two are already sold. However, as the masks are computer generated, I may do further editions using different colours.

United Kingdom
David Stuart, long fascinated by the beauty and complexity of the plant world, has painted and drawn them on and off since childhood. Born in London, he now lives partly in the Scottish Borders, or in Edinburgh. Still collecting plants, he uses paint, drypoint, silk screen and digital methods to portray the splendours of the plant world. Most of his images are derived from his own garden. He would love to be able to draw like Durer, simplifiy as stylishly as Ellsworth Kelly, be as sumptuous as Matisse, and as rigorous as Ruskin.
