About The Artwork

I studied theater in 1967-1971, (Language and Culture Center/Theater Department) in the following years I played in many theaters and plays. I give acting classes and continue my theater life. My passion for photography, which started in childhood, increased with the darkroom I established in 1978 and has reached today. After the overlap of Theater and Photography, the desire to paint began. I started painting in 1981 without any education. In 1982, I attended Professor Sabri Berkel's Workshop for a short time. I opened my first painting exhibition in 1984. Between 1984-2000, I opened 14 personal exhibitions in Istanbul, Ankara and 7 cities in Anatolia with my works consisting of oil paints and pastel paints. I participated in group exhibitions. I have many paintings in personal and corporate collections. In 2002, I started digital photography and digital photography, picture printing works. Those were the years when digital painting was considered unimportant. In the digital world, I thought about how I can paint on a computer, how do I go beyond classical photography, how do I get out of the limited photograph in the finalized frame, can I get inside it and turn it upside down, what kind of change I can make, what kind of work can I make, and I will use Photoshop to use the photos I take. I started to make digital pictures by drawing, creating different images like fractal painting with various techniques. I named these pictures I made as “FOTORES”. (2003). It is a word that I have derived from the combination of the words FOTOgraf and RESim in the Turkish language spoken in Turkey. So PHOTOgraph and PICture; It's like "PHOTOPIC". I definitely make my Digital Fotores works from my own photographs and drawings. I make Ex-libris in digital media from my photores works and oil and pastel paintings.

The terrible Second World War had just ended. I was born on a snowy, cold winter day, on November 30, 1946 in Istanbul, Turkey. Maybe that's why I love winter landscapes and make their paintings. Right now, while I am writing this article, I am looking out the window at the snow that has been falling for three days. My name is İsmet Üstekin, I am actor photographer and painter. I’am still alive and living in Istanbul, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, I am interested in art. Theatre, Photography and Painting... I believe that these three branches of art, besides many factors, are based on observation and overlap with each other. In this order, I am happy to find myself in the creative triangle of Theatre, Photography and Painting world. This triangle reflects human and nature, develops the artist's vision, knowledge, talent and creativity. While taking thousands of portrait photos, I saw that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. In painting, the painter reflects the spirit of the person and the place. The photographer captures this momentarily, from the photographer's point of view, of course. The same features apply in the theatre. The theater actor carries people to the stage with their psychophysical characteristics, creates the space, conditions and atmosphere on the stage. Here is the overlap of theater and photography. “Leonardo da Vinci says to his students; “The soul does not like to be separated from the body. Build me a figure (sculpture) so that its stance shows what its soul tells, and we can see the soul of the figure. ”This discourse is a clue and a valuable gift to the actor for the characters he will create on stage. As in painting and sculpture, an actor in the theater should be able to go deep into the character he creates on stage and exhibit what the spirit of the character tells.
