Balance - II Print

My current art practice might be seen in a dual character that are intertwined each other. Living in Istanbul, the relationship between the city and society as well as the political conditions that give rise and shape those relation constituted my main subjects. The individual projects called Transformation, Consumption, Power/Destruction Loop and Postmodern Freedom were intended to put an experiment-like situations where subjects are seen to be both exposed and impose power. The same dichotomy, for instance, becomes more symbolic and abstract in Pressure series where the center might been seen both the fund and suppressed point of power. On the other part, studying at the department of ceramic and glass design, we were limited with respect to certain materials and forms. For this reason, another ambition for me was connected with trying and using different materials I found around. Helping to understand the nature of each materials as I could have the chance to discover my own shape of art. But more importantly, concerning the political and social aspects mentioned above, waste materials that I builded the majority of my artworks feels the right way to form my ideas. Besides, I consider nowadays to carry some of the Pressure pieces to public space and hopefully extend the dimensions of the project by allowing broader participation. Additional to my art practice, I concurrently design furniture for venues and objects such as lamb as well as jewelry that are involved in certain collections and displayed in some stores. While being related a part with my educational history, I see those designs as another chance of interaction with various materials, but this time having an additional chance to put them again in use, in a daily life.
