About The Artwork

Curious Flowers is part of the Vegetal sculpted paper series, in which the colour white evokes purity, luminosity and simplicity. Used in sculpture, white comes to life with a wealth of nuances. Shadows blend delicately with the motif, creating a subtle interplay of light and depth. In this way, white transcends its initial nature to reveal an infinite palette of subtleties, adding an extra dimension to the sculpture and captivating the eye in a magical way. Sculpture, both figurative and abstract, aims to make visible what is not visible at first glance, inviting the viewer to enter a breach where the invisible becomes visible. Starting from the heart of the paper, the scalpel gives birth to instinctive vegetal forms meticulously directed by the hand of the artist.

Self-taught artist, Caitrin sculpts and strips paper, creating poetic bas-reliefs inspired by the world of plants and architecture. Her sculptures, which are both figurative and abstract, aim to make visible what is not visible at first glance, inviting the viewer to ask questions. Caitrin Alexandre began her career as a costume designer for film and theatre from 1987 to 1998. However, a move to the countryside marked a decisive turning point in her life, leading her to become an interior and floral designer from 1999 to 2011. Her return to Paris in 2011 rekindled her passion for drawing and painting, and she had the opportunity to exhibit twice at the Galerie des Bons Enfants. In 2016, she was the winner of L'Esprit de Paris, a prize launched by the Ateliers de Paris. Two years running, she creates an ephemeral work for the Nuit Blanche du livre at La Garenne-Colombes. From 2017, she embarked on in-depth research into the transformation of plants into colours using ancient processes. She applies these techniques to a collection of household linen under the AVA Paris brand In 2020, during the health crisis, Caitrin returned to watercolour and sculpted paper, exploring new forms of artistic expression. She exhibits in France and the UK, sharing her unique creations that reflect the influence of nature and are in line with the Anglo-Saxon Arts & Crafts movement. Artists such as W. Morris, The Four from Glasgow, K. Moser and K. Serizawa are among his main sources of inspiration, fuelling his artistic approach and his singular aesthetic.
