About The Artwork

A monumental glass sculpture Place de la Tour in Troyes France. A large canopy sculpture is installed Place de la Tour, in a fountain with a square basin. This 800 kg piece, with its steel structure carrying 20 glass panels allowing light to play and surmounted by a crystalline arrow, represents a real challenge. With the collaboration of Didier Duchêne, Companion of Duty and leader of the metalworking industry CMD² in Estissac, Jean-François Lemaire, glass artist, has thus realized one of the rare sculptures of large glass, installed in French public spaces. This work, which expresses several themes with the vocabulary of contemporary art, is commissioned by the City of Troyes. The themes that the artist and the City had agreed to develop as early as spring 2018 are related to history, water and blue color. A tribute to the painter Claude Monet, who so often painted the reflections of light on rivers, ponds and rivers, is also at the source of the project. With another vocabulary, the blue panels of the sculpture Elevation, blue water lilies, reflecting or letting light pass, also speak to us about water, time, transmission. These are their strongest messages. But we must also count with the pleasure of the current look at the reflections, the exploration of the steel structure, the strolling around the basin, the discovery of details, the search for signs and reminders. These are all subtle messages that involve us as we set in motion the poetic movement that makes us, for a moment, citizens of this work and our own dreams.
