About The Artwork

HOARDER!!! The Long Edict ; A Late Capitalist March (2020) , is a digitally crafted artwork mounted on cylindrical structure, addressing the idea of a failure in the late capitalistic system, through the subject matter of a toilet roll, and for a hopeful sustainable solution as part of the reformation of the 21st century; The Great Reset / Restoration project. The work was built upon an interest, supply and demand, of the toilet paper during periods prior to the isolation/ global lockdown. The panic buying of many individuals, their consumption and selfish behaviors, were believed by the artist to be one of high consumption, and in the long run, non sustainable. Thus humanity , naturally had to undergo a global reset, in the way we operate on a daily basis, to the lifestyle choices , that would determine the fate of our environment, for future generations to inhabit. It was Prince Charles that inspired part on the topic of sustainability and a return to naturalism. The work aesthetics, follows in the likeness of 20th and 21st century masters of Dadaism, such as Marcel Duchamp's ready made "Fountain", Warhol's Banality series of soup cans, Picasso's bicycle seat representing a head of a bull, and most recent, comedian, a taped banana, by Maurizio Cattelan. The toilet roll, blown up to scale, gesticulates a sense of high demand in a failing capitalist system, also, a representation of the times, a return back to bare necessities, from a society of excess, to essentialism.
