About The Artwork

The artwork titled I Used To Be Soft and Cuddly used to be soft and cuddly when it was a terry cloth bath towel and another soft towel in my bathroom. The material was too good to discard when its towel life was over. So it became this creature, but with many, many layers of paint and lacquer it became a different creature: coarse and shiny on the surface but still a softie on the inside. The base form uses wood and paper pulp shaped into minimal body parts. Weight is about 12 pounds. Hangs on heavy duty steel wire secured on steel bolts drilled and cemented into the base form. Quite striking, with a very defiant presence, it emanates a very strong, rebellious nature - fascinating.

Poetry, music, rebellion, femininity, humour and wonder of my world reveal themselves in images, both soft and hard, always mysterious, always in layers of meaning. My stories emerge like flowers opening up their petals, one at a time, as I try to bring to light all the facets of a certain moment in time, of a beautiful memory. But in the end, or in the beginning, it's all about love. I explore painting as a connection to our human vulnerability, of which love is its ultimate manifestation. https://www.instagram.com/gone_with_chinook/
