About The Artwork

The objects created within the Směsi / Mixtures series are strongly connected with the doctoral research of Vendulka Prchalová at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. All nine objects (object 004 is in the picture) are connected not only by the selection of topics and visuality, but also by the technological processes used for their production. The main building block of the objects is a 3D model of a dog. It is rather a symbol, the idea of a dog - an ambivalent indifferent shape embodying the often conflicting meanings that this animal represents in the history of art. The shape is intentionally taken from model libraries as a general, unspecified dog, lacking any history associated with a particular race or emotion. An indistinct object designed to be transformed into an object related to the user's needs. This basic shape was manipulated by 3D graphics programs by dividing and multiplying into compositions most suitable for each topic. The models were then converted into material form using 3D printing and into glass using technology of kiln cast glass. The connection of modern technology and classic craftsmanship is another of the project's strong motives. With one exception, all objects consist of several parts that served as test casts for the artist's dissertation research itself. These parts, created by division in their intangible phase in the environment of a 3D program, are then loosely merged by another, we can say imperfect or low material in their physical form. This intentionally creates visual tension, a feeling of fragility and imbalance, which refers to the personal themes that the works are embodying. Objects have only numeric designations, not names. It is thus up to the viewer to look for meanings in each sculpture. The author offers the viewers the opportunity to use their own invention to search for themes of objects, which basically represent social themes that are very personal and yet concern a wide range of people at the author's age - feelings of inadequacy, social separation, inability to make fundamental decisions, etc .. All the objects were finished in 2019 and were presented during a solo exhibition Směsi / Mixtures in UM gallery in Prague, Czech republic. Object Směsi / Mixtures 004 is part of Blok Českého skla collection. Photo credit: Tomáš Slavík

I´m glass artist on the start of the journey. My main focus is on kiln cast glass, but I'm working also with different techniques and materials. I'm interested in integration of glass as equivalent to other materials usual in contemporary fine art scene.
