About The Artwork

"The eternal bride" is one of the figures that I show in the group LIVING PEOPLE. I have incorporated in her a veil of my great-grandmother. As in many of my works, it is about a special destiny. She is all young heart. She is all hope. She is all love. She is all dress. But let's let her speak for herself: "You know - the people from my village, they never understood. How should they have? it's just something so "special" with me and Franz. When he told me he had to go up the mountain again, he simply had to, you see, how could I refuse him? As young as he was, so strong, so loyal. And as the months went into the year, and the months became years, the people said: Yes, why does it take someone else? A missing person never comes, that's as certain as the amen in prayer. There are really enough handsome men in the village! - But I don't want that, you know. It's out of the question for me, because that's not what it's all about. It's about the eternal in love, that's what it's about. Only about that..." I wonder if she also knows how her life will be told to the end. The mountain keeps the bridegroom for 100 years. Spat out again, the young man is still a fresh 18 years old. As if awakened from a long sleep, he rubs his eyes and then joyfully strives towards his village. His bride comes back to his mind, full of anticipation of the reunion he runs as fast as he can. Then he hears the bell ringing from the church tower. My wedding! he is startled. Surely it has not already begun? When he arrives at the bottom, a procession of people in black escorts the eternal bride to her final resting place. Only at her coffin does the groom's heart stop beating. From: Susanna Andreini, Living People, 2011 The emotional life traces of this waiting, wise woman who overcomes her fate and takes it into her own hands are reflected as cracks and fissures in the bride's dress. I am happy to know that you give this special lady a special place in your home.
