About The Artwork

This sculpture has been inspired by an ongoing discussion, in both philosophy and in many religious practices, on the subject of self. When do we become aware of 'self'? What is the true 'I'? We certainly have little or no sense of self when we are asleep, do we obtain it back when we wake up? We are oneness with the world around us, yet we go about our day with a complete conviction of a separate being. Once we start paying attention via meditation we notice that the borders blur and disappear in a state of tranquility. This is my second sculpture version on the subject of self-illusion. This sculpture is cast in a special hard plaster and weighs about 7 kg with the base. Size (with stone base): 41 H x 30 W x 21 cm

In my work I always try to find answers to a series of existential questions like these ones: is there beauty and joy in our lives, why do we enjoy living if the strongest memories we have got are our negative experiences, what is the meaning of life? I see human life as a sequence of emotional states that we can barely comprehend and make sense of them, drifting from point A (birth) to our final destination - point B (death), which is waiting for us just around the corner. Emotions and experiences in their purest forms are my subjects of interest, which I try to express through abstracted figures.
