About The Artwork
This work was started in 1980 while I was in the college sculpture studio of Alan Shepp. I wanted to work with stone in order to experience what the great sculptures of history experienced. I was unable to finish the sculpture until six years later. I was inspired by the work of Alberto Giacometti. I wanted to bring life from the marble stone. As a Yosemite water nymph this form is most happily photogenic by the Yosemite water.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
