ELECTROPOLIS

The Electropolis Collection is a photographic homage to 20th century abstract painters. It consists of a photo series that - apart from basic contrast/saturation adjustments - are just as they came out of the camera. I shot these abstract, digital photographs in 2014 with a technique combining daytime long-exposure (shutter speeds of several seconds using ND filters) and intentional camera movement, either through experimental hand gestures, body moves or aided by the motion of a means of transportation. My research was specifically focused on the pictorial quality of the motion blur and its aesthetics. Inspired by how motion blur can resemble the brush strokes of a painter, I experimented with it creating new impressions.
