Sand and Ashes

These series explore the passage of time and the cycle of life, death and rebirth through the use of small organic and mineral particles common in my work. In particular, volcanic ashes, crushed rocks, shimmering specks and burnt paper. These works heighten our awareness of time, place, memory, and emotion. They remind us of the fluidity of time, while simultaneously conveying a feeling of apprehension. Reminiscent of a dust storm looming on the horizon, these abstract sculptures suggest forthcoming changes in our lives, uncontrollably sweeping away memories.
