Portraits of Significance

Developing this series began in August when my father who was terminally ill revealed to me in conversation that he had been wanting me to paint his portait for the last thirty years. Although he said it was “too late now”, I painted his portait, shared with him the completed artwork along with the process video, and he was delighted with his portrait. Two days after he received the portrait in his physical hands, he had passed away, and the painting was displayed as his image of remembrance at his memorial service. I am so glad he got to see his portait painted by his son, and that it was not in fact too late at all.
