These monochromatic abstract paintings depict the ambiguity of graphic forms that inspire the artist. Many subjects are extracted from botanicals and found objects native to the bucolic landscapes of the Texas Hill Country, where the artist took up residency for several years. Influenced by the gestural methods of Franz Kline, partial forms are revealed through the stark contrast of cast light versus shadow, while flow of movement and emotion drive the ultimate composition. The limited color palettes minimize referential comprehension, beckoning the viewer to import a construction familiar to his or her personal experience.
