Non-Objective Landscapes

For work within this series, I photographed landscape to emulate the feel of midcentury abstract expressionism. With my still life and landscape work, I seek to render three dimensional spaces in two dimensions so that the objective representation of the scene ceases to exist. In its place, form and color become primary and all reference to external reality is removed. To accomplish this, I travel across the Western United States to find natural landscapes that will fit into my stylistic paradigm. Once there, I photograph with a high resolution medium format camera to capture maximum detail. The resulting image is then edited by me in postproduction to create the final artwork.
