Walls
el Kemp researches everyday environments and removes aspects of them from their original context, carefully composing them as photographs that resemble abstract painting. These ‘found works’ examine the accidental products of our environment, details removed from the perspective of their surroundings. Playing upon scale, the subject is often unclear. From miniature to massive, these works display the beauty of simplicity, repetition and decay.
With the black and white ‘Walls’, photographs of grids were taken on a large-format 5×4 field camera on Polaroid Type 55 film. Nothing was added or removed digitally once the film was scanned so they are absolutely true to their found nature.
