Abstract Cyanotypes (all sizes)
Each abstract cyanotype is an entirely unique work of experimental photography made without a lens, negative or stencil. These exact lines, shapes and shades of blue cannot be recreated as the way the paper was manipulated by me during exposure was spontaneous and unique. A traditional single-exposure cyanotype yields a white silhouette against a dark blue background on paper painted with light-sensitive chemicals. But instead of creating a white image by blocking light with solid objects on the light-sensitive paper, I use water to block the light, submerging parts of the paper at different angles, creating subtle gradations of darkening blue as I immerse the paper for successive timed exposures under water.
