"Beekeeper" is a quilt for the "Recycled textiles" project, the second life of fabric, which was implemented at the initiative of twenty countries, members of the European Patchwork Association. This project will inaugurate the International Patchwork Festival in Birmingham, England in August 2021, and in 2022, as an exhibition, it will move around the patchwork festivals in Europe. When I read the terms of the project, I immediately realized that I would participate, because, like in the pantry of a crazy squirrel, throughout my life I collect and use all the beautiful fabrics that I can reach. The lion's share of them have already lived their first lives. As a child, I learned from my grandmother that a dignified death of cloth in the household is a duster. Today I like more the term “redirected things”, used by the modern social movement. This is not about our poverty and wretchedness, but about the fact that fabrics acquire a different life in a new quality. This movement is gaining strength, because our time is changing the attitude towards used things. If earlier they served for a long time, now people are obsessed with unreasonable consumption. I believe that this insane squandering of the planet's resources and human labor urgently needs something to counter. I give a second life to fabrics and decor in works of art. Therefore, the work "Beekeeper" is 100% made of fabrics and other materials that live their second life. These are discarded theatrical costumes from hand-dyed natural silk (hello to the play "Romeo and Juliet"!). In the work were also used scraps, waste from my favorite sewing workshop of my native theater and things of my dear friends, who generously donate their supplies. My favorite yellow-blue dress (the colors of the Ukrainian flag) also went into work. It is decorated with beads removed from once luxurious things.
