Children at Play Collage

"Children at Play" is an original mixed media artwork including paper collage, acrylic paint and black India Ink on 12" x 9" watercolor paper (300 gsm). This artwork is created using paper cuttings from magazines, mixed with layers of acrylic paint and line drawing with black India Ink, inspired from the "Mithila" or "Madhubani" folk art style. The free-flowing primitive art like freehand lines and figures (and often used bright and vibrant colors) of "Mithila" art, also known as "Madhubani" painting, inspire me. I draw and paint intuitively and spontaneously, moving from chaos and void to order, balance and rhythm. I go with the flow, painting only something that I connect to, or something that comes from deep within. I love to create using lines and bright, bold colours, often combining them as mixed media. I like to work with the “collage feel” even while painting. I like working with the Mithila/ Madhubani folk art in the traditional as well as contemporary context. I also like to explore different mediums from black India ink, pen and marker to bright and vibrant colors. I believe in the power of colors to help evoke a positive or negative response. This artwork uses a fusion of traditional Mithila/ Madhubani painting style with "collage" style. (Disclaimer: The image show is a photograph taken using a digital camera.
