Eye of the Beholder Collage

This piece is of a beautiful African American girl who is judging her own beauty based upon European beauty standards, hence the unnatural eye of a Caucasian person replacing that of her own eye. The other eye is intentionally missing, signifying that she is blind to her own beauty. Her clothing is made up of words from fashion magazines, conveying that she is wearing and carrying them on herself at all times, taking on the standards found in the media and further changing her perception of herself. Her mouth is sealed, indicating that she suffers in silence. It is printed on matte archival heavyweight paper.
