About The Artwork

This is a small but detailed hand cut collage from 1950's magazines flush mounted on 1.5mm black core mount board. My work blends humour and the uncanny and is inspired by collagists from the early to mid 20th century with a modern twist of irony.

Gordon Dawson is a London based artist who has exhibited extensively in UK and across Europe. Working in hand cut paper collage, mixed media installation and single screen video. His work subjectively reinvents aspects of surrealism, pop and appropriation, blended with the 'uncanny' and a dry humour. Gordon has worked professionally for over thirty years as a self employed studio artist whilst also working in video production / editing, soundtrack composition and music production / performance, as well as sculpture / furniture manufacture for artists and architects. He has worked as a visiting art lecturer at Camberwell and Central St Martins art schools, London. He also directed the outsider arts project VISION IMPOSSIBLE at St Johns Community Space Centre for the homeless in Hackney, London and facilitated a video group at CORE ARTS mental health charity, London.
