About The Artwork
The second collage in this series of original artworks, this piece is the calm after the storm, offering the viewer a chance to heal and recover after a challenge or a period of adversity. Using my unique process of 'painting with paper', this complex image is made up of over 700 individual elements, all torn or cut from magazines, building up layers of colour and texture to represent the original image which is a photograph I took of palm trees in Costa Rica. This piece was my most challenging yet, taking approximately 115 hours to complete. A craft knife was used to add final details and highlights. The 'Heal' text represents restoring and healing the body and mind in nature, and was chosen to complement the peaceful, relaxing imagery, this idyllic scene in a tropical location. The work comes unframed, and the total size of the paper that the piece is mounted on is 41cm W x 37cm H (16in x 14.5in). The collage itself is approximately 38cm x 37cm (15in x 14.5in). The work can be framed to either hide or highlight the rough edges, depending on personal preference. The artwork is signed by the artist.
