"Looking good" is part of a series of mixed media artworks. It´s all about how beauty became a very important aspect in our lives. For us it is already quite normal to reach a certain beauty standard by using plastic surgery. The faces are morphed faces from fashion magazines. I took them apart and put them together again in a different way. The many layers in the images stand for the way how we change our appearance through plastic surgery. We put on a new face, a new mask to achieve certain beauty standard. What we want is more happiness, prosperity and love. Our body is no longer accepted as unchangeable, but is seen as a white canvas that we can shape according to our imagination. May the scalpel be with you.

My name is Eva Silberknoll, I am a visual artist and photographer in love with the sewing machine. I have been taking photographs since I was 14 years old, when I took my parent´s old Agfa Color during our fist holiday by the sea. Since then I am fascinated by capturing fleeting impressions and transforming them into something special, through my personal gaze. To this day, I am inspired by the almost infinite expressive possibilities of this medium. My creative career began as member of a fashion label, that´s why I like to work interdisciplinary. My career as a designer did not last long, but my love for fashion remained and continues to inspire me. Textile techniques are therefore an integral part of my creative practice. Furthermore I love to experiment and merge different disciplines. After fashion came art and I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, focusing on photography and cultural studies. The photograph is at the centre of my artistic work. It either stands alone or is the canvas of my mixed media artworks, where combine photography, colours and textile techniques. With the help of my artwork I tell stories – stories of personal journeys, places of desire and dreams. Staged photography enables me to visualise these and leaves enough space for the viewer´s own narrative. “The works give strength and remind us that life itself is magical.” With these words a French writer in New York recently commented on my art. Furthermore, I want to surprise with my pictures: it may be possible that one discovers a rainbow made with the sewing machine on a Polaroid. What does that mean? I am happy to leave that up to you.
