Five Panel mixed-media collage (Acrylic paint, Canvas, Ink) on plywood This portrait began with under-painting the portrait of Yinka Shonibare onto 5 separate wooden panels, using acrylic paint. The collage elements were then prepared using acrylic paint and permanent ink on canvas. The component parts were cut with a scalpel. I then assembled the work and brought to completion using acrylic paint and ink. In my mind, Yinka Shonibare is a truly great artist. To quote Wikipedia, "Yinka Shonibare CBE, RA (born 1962) is a British-Nigerian artist living in the United Kingdom. His work explores cultural identity, colonialism and post-colonialism within the contemporary context of globalisation. A hallmark of his art is the brightly coloured Dutch wax fabric he uses." I find him inspirational on many levels. I included his words in this work, along Oscar Wilde's quote (who Yinka Shonibare greatly admires): "Life imitates art far more than art imitates life."

Eleanor Turvey launched her career with a series of arresting and powerful collage portraits. What sets her work apart is a unique technique and a continuously evolving practice. "My love of portraiture began as a personal search for truth and guidance. I have studied and portrayed many great leaders and thinkers along my journey and I realised that, in addition to capturing their likeness, I wanted to weave their thoughts and words into the portrait, thereby opening a window into the mind of the person being portrayed. I discovered that collage is the perfect medium for achieving this." Eleanor Turvey lives and works in Cape Town and became a full-time artist in 2012. Her work is in private and corporate collections in the UK, Hong Kong and throughout Africa.
