Sea Shells Framed in a Wood Lobster Trap Hoop Collage

Living in a small community with a rich fishing heritage I can see lots of subject matter for my art work. These sea shells combine the traditional art of rug hooking (strips of hand-dyed wool are pulled through a linen canvas producing textured loops) with the native shells of the beaches of Eastern Canada and the United States. The quahog, blue mussel, sand dollar and star fish as all things you might find on your walk along the beach. This work of art was designed to fit in a hand-made authentic lobster trap hoop (also called a bow) giving the work not only an interesting shape but an extra dimension of interest. This colourful, somewhat whimsical hoop would fit in any marine decor.
