About The Artwork

During Covid, I started painting and collaging paper into surprising shapes, and had the distinct feeling my ancestors were somehow working though me. I watch with curiosity as abstractly sensuous shapes come out of my scissors edge, to fall just so - a perfect dance between shapes, bodies, layers, forms, curves, colors, receding, appearing. A story is told. I did the art solely for myself, had no plan, no future other than the pleasure of playing with color, paper, shapes and watching the stories emerge. Only now I find my shelves full of artworks and a curious sensation that this is now a THING. I clearly am enjoying being guided by ancestors. I have much to share. This act of arting delights me in overwhelming, simple ways. Color, shapes and the dance of both is so oddly, intimately moving! My hope is that this is transported to you.

I've been fascinated by color most likely since my mom painted my bedroom a vibrant mix of pink and orange as a young child. The affair was settled: we'd be life long companions, and I'd explore the intersection of hues with great joy. I spent my youth playing in vibrant, vivid colors, an invigorating engine of zest and fun - and perhaps a reflection of the California sunshine. Later I moved to Central Eastern Europe, and was struck by the softer palettes, eventually succumbing to the pull of these sensuous shades. My interest in light, frequency, physics, consciousness all intersect in my more current "Phaintings" - photographs of my colored paintings - where the multi-layered dimensions of light and color create a soft meditative narrative. I think of this as the collective of ancestors, embracing us in lulling hues and calling us back into the womb of humanity.
