Ruth Robertson is well known in the Washington Metropolitan Area for
her figurative works. Her sensuous interpretation of the figure has
become a hallmark of her work. Although best known for her black and
white photographs of nudes she is also well known for her mixed media
works and paintings. Her work has received critical acclaim in the
Mid-Atlantic region where it has been heavily exhibited, and is highly
sought by collectors worldwide. Her work is also included in the
permanent collections of four museums.
Private collectors throughout the United States, Great Britain, Europe,
the Middle and Far East and Latin America have purchased Robertson's
work. Ruth Robertson is represented by commercial galleries in Atlanta,
GA, Dallas, TX, Los Angeles, CA, San Diego, CA and is self-representing
on the Internet. Robertson has exhibited her work at The Museum Of
Contemporary Art in DC, where the museum hosted a solo exhibition of
her work. Her photographs have been exhibited in Havana, Cuba. Her
series "In Conversation With Alesso Baldovinetti" was discussed on
WETA's Around Town in July of 2002.
Ruth Robertson holds a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Virginia
Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. She spent two years in West
Germany pursuing her art studies from 1970- 1972. Ms. Robertson is a
former art teacher. Her last teaching position was at Bishop O'Connell
High School in Arlington, VA. Early in her career she taught in the Fairfax
County, Virginia public school system. She has taught as an adjunct
faculty member in the MIS program at Virginia Commonwealth University.
In 1988 Ruth Robertson opened her studio as an exhibition space, used
to exhibit not only her work, but that of other artists. For the next ten
years she worked establishing herself as an artist and an art dealer.
In 1998 she left her teaching position to work full time as a studio artist.
In May of 2001 she purchased half interest in District West Fine Art
located in the Northern Virgina Suburbs of Washington, D.C. In 2004
Ruth Robertson opened a second gallery, Ruth Robertson, also located
in Northern Virginia.
