About The Artwork

Damien Hirst's shark points to the inconceivability of imagining death, but in Buddhism it is important that we maintain a positive emotional attitude when we are faced with death, and this is something we may need to consciously cultivate.

A self-taught mural painter, I completed 5 murals between 1975 and 1989, one of which featured in a book of British murals (Painting the Town, 1979) and a British Council touring exhibition. In the early 1990s I took up Buddhist practice seriously and was ordained into the Western Buddhist Order (now the Triratna Buddhist Order) and I began to produce Buddhist images, as well as teaching meditation. In the early 2000s I began to work on mixed media collage, experimenting with theatre light acetates to produce vibrant colours expressing positive emotions.
