Thrive Collage

Unashamedly uplifting, this unique original artwork is about overcoming adversity, about succeeding despite challenges, about dreaming when you're struggling. Can you stay determined, focused and positive even when it seems impossible to do so, can you still dream and thrive no matter what? I wanted to try a new collage technique for the first time. Developing a unique process which I call 'painting with paper', the entire collage is made from tiny pieces torn or cut from magazines and newspapers, building up colour and texture to represent the original image which is a photograph of an inspiring location in Australia with mountains, forest, rocks and a flowing river. The work took approximately 100 hours to complete, with several hundred individual elements. The finishing details using a craft knife added scratches and texture to the rocks, and the foreground features individual blades of grass. The word 'Thrive' was chosen partially in response to the imagery and is a kind of affirmation, a positive statement meant to inspire the viewer. The work comes unframed, the total size of the paper the piece is mounted on is 38cm W x 37cm H (15in x 14.5in). The collage itself is approximately 34cm W x 37cm H (13.5in x 14.5in). It can either be framed tightly to hide the rough edges or framed showing the rough edges, depending on what look you prefer. The artwork comes signed by the artist.
