A series inspired by this quote: If you begin to understand what you are without trying to change it, then what you are undergoes a transformation. —Jiddu Krishnamurti The paintings, collages, and wood assemblages in this series are conceptual portraits of a human or humanity as a whole, our shifts in consciousness, self-awareness & our oneness. Generally, I start a new series with smaller paintings as my sketches to reference as the work becomes larger. In the case of this Transformation series, I am working in reverse, by using a large painting that took 18 years to complete as an inspiration and guide for wood assembly pieces of art I make once and a while. The wood pieces are repurposed wood slats from when I used to frame my canvases. Sometimes I have extra paint when I clean up at the end of the day so instead of throwing it away, I would grab a wood slat and paint it. I had several of these laying around and when I moved studios, I taped them together for easy transport. After doing so I liked how they looked sandwiched together and thought that would make an interesting piece of art. Each color or stripe represents self and humanity in different times and spaces. There are only enough slats for one or two more pieces so this special series is a good art investment.
