W**** at T** Collage

The collage series is a part and continuation of my work Khandayati currently on view at the Vitra Design Museum in Wheil am Rhein, Germany. The work displays a process designed to destroy and transform glass bangles, accessories required to be worn by Indian women, using household appliances. The ink and watercolour collage series accompany the installation. The collage series uses calendar illustrations that are common in Indian households. The illustrations hang quietly in the home reminding women about their chores, how to dress, interact, and behave. By dislodging the figures from domesticity and obliterating their identity, I attempt to liberate the characters from the prescribed decorum expected of women in India. Most of the violence towards women in India are justified and encouraged by placing tradition, custom, and culture as reason. The work is printed illustrations collaged with watercolor on stone henge paper. The work is framed and ready to hang with two D rings on the back.
