born 1962, Madison, Wisconsin, USA. Come from a family of artist's. Studied art at the University of Wisonsin, USA. Owned and operated an contemporary art gallery in Michigan for 7 years, before relocating to South Africa. Lori is married with two children, and works out of her Johannesburg studio. She is represented in South Africa, by Artspace Johannesburg and Carol Lee Fine art. In America she is represented by GVG Contemporary, Santa Fe and Zuva Gallery, Scottsdale, AZ. For the first 30 years of my life, I lived, worked and breathed- America. For the past 15 years, I have lived in South Africa, which has re-defined my personal and artistic experience. My environment, has always been a primary influence in my work, as well as the spiritual, inward journey that I have been on. Now, more than ever the earth has been speaking to us about how to get back and sustain a healthy, symbiotic way of living/life on this planet. My work is evolving in this way as well. Living in South Africa, where every kind of culture is represented- my eyes and soul have been opened up to the fact that we are all very much a part of a global community, to turn our back on one, is to turn our back on all of us. My need for nature is a constant presence in my life, and is always represented within my paintings. I find peace in the order of things, and this very constant order speaks to me through colour; design and texture- as it is in nature. Both the American, as well as the African landscape have been imbedded permanently into my mental imaging. This has given my work a deeper edge, a richer sense of colour and contrast. I have always worked in a strong rather geometric style-which reiterates my need for that "inner sense of order." I beleive that my hand, while painting, is simply an instrument of Spirit-at-work.
