About The Artwork

I was born in Quebec and moved to Hawaii in my late 30s, I started to appreciate things I perhaps overlooked before… I started to really enjoy walking on the beach, and for the first time, I was doing it because I wanted to, and not because I was on vacation for a limited time. Since then, I always lived near the ocean; I opened my eyes just the same as I did before, but I saw so much more. I was breathing just the same as I was before, but I felt so much more alive and in the moment. I was able to escape from my life, temporary and safely through art and walking in the sand, overlooking the waves. With the ocean, I learned that life was so much more than my own existence. Next to the sea, I felt small, and my worries felt irrelevant. I felt serenity. A few months ago, I embarked on a personal challenge. Creating compositions that would become fabrics. And these fabrics would be used for table linens: tablecloths, napkins, tea towels, runners... The creation began with a multitude of little sketches, painted with drawing ink. I then scanned the sketches and imported them in the Procreate Software. The application of colors and texture as well as the pattern itself are very personal to me, and always will be. This series of designs has multiple themes: tea for you and me, spaghetti dinner, sea la vie, picnic in the park... They are colorful, joyful and bold. A percentage of the profits of the sales will be donated to local food banks of America. I was very privileged to have access to copious amounts of food throughout my life, by creating these designs, I hope my art can help people in need and in a joyful way, feed some brave souls. - Vero Godbout, artist
