About The Artwork

My digital work is always multi-layered. Every layer has its own unique combination of forms, colors, digital brushstrokes, filters and degrees of transparency. I merge these layers into a work of digital art. Digital artworks can be printed on paper, or on a variety of other materials. This work is part of my Flower Bulb Field series. I was born and raised in the Netherlands, where I enjoyed the magic of this typically Dutch landscape. The bright colors extend across the earth in elongated geometric shapes. The blooming fields inspire me to explore the boundaries between landscape painting and abstract painting. Balancing on a thin rope. However inspiring, flower bulb fields are generally not environmentally friendly. We need to adopt more sustainable practices. Otherwise, how long will it last? The flower bulb industry in the Netherlands has a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Over time, Dutch expertise in cultivation techniques and the establishment of flower auctions solidified the country's position as a global leader in bulb production. However, this success has come with environmental challenges, including pollution from pesticide and fertilizer use, soil degradation, and loss of biodiversity.

I have been an independent artist for over 10 years now. For me painting is a learning process in itself. I always reach a little further than I can. I'm always looking for ways to do things differently. If I keep doing that, it's never going to be a trick. I fight the force of habit in my way of working. Because I see it everywhere: habits are easily adopted in a creative process. Which then is not so creative anymore. Simple things in nature inspire me the most: a breaking wave on the beach, a wilted flower in the garden, an autumn tree in the forest. Sometimes there is an invisible third hand that paints along. Call it flow. Or inspiration. I cannot force this invisible hand to cooperate. When it happens, it always results in a painting that I am satisfied with. I have my own studio and art gallery in Utrecht, the Netherlands, from where I sold over 80 artworks through the years. I also like to exhibit at other locations.
