Do we really live in a time when a civilization as we know it will disappear? Are we just witnessing a great change that will irreversibly change life on Earth or are we just one segment of an eternally repetitive cycle? How aware are we of the seriousness of the situation in which humanity currently finds itself? I see Collage, as one of the most intriguing techniques of visual arts. My collages are made in the spirit of postmodern photomontage, with photo fragments downloaded from the internet. The art of appropriation, experienced its great affirmation precisely in the postmodern era. It primarily refers to the approach to the object of appropriation, because instead of the fetishistic attitude of the postmodern towards assumed forms and objects deprived of original meaning, today's artists of appropriation we are aware of the temporal or historical aspect of the form they take to emphasize the permeability of the repetition of historical layers, and their simultaneous relevance in the present moment, from the infinity of visual information to which we are exposed today. Layering layer by layer, I build compositionally and content-wise complex works that on a formal and conceptual level reflect the complexity of the medium and the topic I´m dealing with. The question I try to emphasize is how much are we aware of our own situation and, ultimately, our own mortality?
