About The Artwork
I have created "letters" on and off during my career. At first the letter form was a series of small images drawn in rows which I later realized were "like a letter". The format was of interest because it was unusual and I could develop a kind of narrative by presenting forms the viewer could make associations with to add their own experience to. I use water media in most of my drawings because it is demanding. Errors are not to be erased. Using ink is the closest to actual letter writing.

Born on Governor's Island, NY on July 4, 1942. Early creative impulses led to music in the third grade. Studied classical flute until mid high school in Menlo Park, CA. when I began fine arts training. Married right after undergrad studies. Academic career began right after grad school at Univ. of Minnesota then Humboldt State Univ. in northern CA and finally Univ of Texas at Austin. Studio practice continues throughout the academic career.
