About The Artwork
This is an ancient site…looking like a very large tumulus indeed, with the church and graveyard perched on the top. Churches were often built on previously sacred places, like a game of draughts. The Aldworth church is famous for very large effigies of the Norman family who in the middle ages controlled this area, called “The Aldworth Giants”. Something about the site drew me and Nisa-Kerime Over here for many years on drawing expeditions to sacred places in the local landscape.
